JOB SUMMARY:

Security Guard at the Smithsonian Institution. Here at
the Smithsonian, you will be the first and last face our 21 million
annual visitors will see as they walk through our facilities.
This position is located in the Operations Division of the Office of
Protection Services.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
You will be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status required.
Pre-appointment background investigation is required.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Serves as a Security Guard for Smithsonian Institution facilities.
Provides protection and loss prevention services to valuable
materials; ensures the safety and welfare of visitors and staff; and
controls access to Federal installations or similar entities.
Prevents theft, vandalism and crimes against persons and property;
and pursues and detains violators when necessary. Conducts routine
and non-routine inspections to ensure compliance with
security/safety requirements. Patrols assigned areas to check
locks, alarms, door exhibit cases and other barriers. Handles
visitor problems in a professional and tactful manner. Provides
friendly and courteous customer service to museum visitors; provides
information to customers and gives directions by request. Writes
statements for reports and maintains logs associated with offenses
and incidents. Performs other duties as assigned.
