Finding the Best Summer Jobs

Category: Job Searching
Date Published: 7/29/08

Most people think that when you’re looking for a summer job you have to take what’s available and be happy with it. The truth is this only happens when you’re not looking for a job properly.

The first and most important thing is to ask this question: “What do I want or need in a job?”  Don’t be afraid to answer with the question honestly. Obviously you want to be paid well, but what else do you really want? Maybe you want to have flexible hours or work close to home. Or maybe you want your job to have room for a promotion or a raise. It could also be that enjoying your job or using this job to improve your resume is what you want. The answer to this question depends on you.

After you decide what you want, you must then pick the three most important things that you want from in your job. Place these three things in order of importance. Now what you need to do is begin your search for jobs openings. When we designed JobSwagger.com we made sure to make it easy to use and equally easy to find a job. Therefore, if you look at the top of the seeker page you will see the Job search button. You should first enter into the keywords box anything from a name of a company to the position you’re looking for. Afterwards enter into the zip code box your zip code and how many miles away you want the job to be.  The final step is entering your age in order to make sure the jobs you want are applicable to you.

Now that you have a list of jobs you can use your list of the three most important things to make sure that these jobs match your needs. The jobs don’t have to match your needs perfectly but should be a fairly good match to your needs.

The final step is applying to the jobs that you are interested in. The best strategy in finding a job is applying to the most places. The worst thing that could happen is that you’re hired at too many places and then you have to decide where you want to work. Don’t be afraid when you’re sending in your application to include anything you think might make you a good candidate for the position. Good luck and if you need any help please email us at support@jobswagger.com
